Mission
Protection of natural, agricultural, recreational, historic, and scenic lands in our region through the use of conservation covenants, land acquisition, landowner stewardship and education.

Organizational Objectives
The following objectives are for the current five-year period.
Priorities with respect to acquiring interests in land:
- Riparian areas and streams, wetlands, water bodies and watersheds
- Wildlife habitat, natural biodiversity, old growth and ancient forests, forests of any age
- Agricultural land, both traditional and urban food security activities
- Recreation property, compatible with balancing nature with encouraging healthy lifestyles, especially with a view toward securing and promoting a greenbelt
- Conduct an inventory of conservation priorities and outline all watersheds
- Create a conservation strategy
- Scenic, cultural and historic significance
Land management:
- At least three significant parcels preserved/used wisely
- Knowledge and procedures for developing covenants and managing lands
- Restoration and rehabilitation
- Use of no pesticides or herbicides
- Framework for landowner contact and landowner stewardship
- Establish policies concerning land management within the next 10 months
Membership:
- 100 members
- 20 active members on committees
- Sufficient volunteers willing to assist with specific activities as needed
- Regular communication with members, three to six times per year
- Two membership meetings per year
- At least one high profile event or meeting per year
- Establish policies concerning membership within the next 10 months
Fundraising:
- Attached to specific projects
- Annual plan/annual campaign
- Activity to implement budget and support its requirements for incoming funds
- Grants—three successfully funded
- Regular notice inviting legacy donations
- Find a corporate sponsor who shares similar ethics
- Establish policies concerning fundraising within the next 10 months
Public engagement/education:
- At least one annual presentation to landowners on covenants, donations, bequests, etc.
- Literature—five fact sheets, one booklet, two guides
- Newsletter—at least two per year
- Keep website updated—include bio of major donors if they agree
- One newspaper article per year on different topics
- Establish policies concerning public engagement and education within the next 10 months
Administrative:
- Develop operating policies (including annual budget)
Policies will be drafted before the 2021 AGM, with a goal of finalizing each policy by the end of the calendar year.
The organization will prepare more detailed specifications on achieving each of its objectives.
This written Strategic Plan will be reviewed periodically and updated to accurately reflect the progress of Malaspina Land Conservancy Society
