Stillwater Bluffs Legacy Fund
Some years ago, community members across the Powell River region met to talk about parks and greenspace. A plan was developed and six areas were highlighted as areas of priority when it comes to preservation and conservation for the benefit of generations to come.
One of those locations was Stillwater Bluffs and now a group has formed to help raise funds for the hope that some day the land can been acquired for us all.
Friends of Stillwater Bluffs Association is a non-profit organization. We are supporting FOSBA by collecting funds on their behalf, providing tax receipts to those who want them, and reaching out to conservation-minded folks up and down the coast.
Stillwater Bluffs is privately owned. It is over 104 acres and a mix of bluffs bordering the Salish Sea and trees. There are sensitive ecosystems—manzanita and arbutus, coastal Douglas Fir and dry maritime western hemlock. There is a serenity to the land, which has been visited by the public for millennia.
FOSBA’s website stillwaterbluffs.ca carries some information, and some good photos can be found on the “Friends of Stillwater Bluffs” Facebook page. But the best way to find out about Stillwater Bluffs is to go there with someone who knows the area. If you do visit, please keep in mind this is private land and we tread lightly and respectfully upon the ground.
